When along came a spider/And sat down beside her….

One of my favorite ladies has taken up residence outside the back door. Can’t blame her, the yard light attracks every bug within 2 blocks. There are some wonderful little bats whirling around out there too, but I haven’t got the equipment to photograph them. These spiders are more accurate than geese for forecasting autumn. And yes, Lady Spider is as large as you think, she’s the same size as my thumbnail.

Restyled Kufi

image

Not at all obvious in the picture, but I’ve been adjusting my ancient kufi pattern. Still pretty much one size fits most, but uses a bit less yarn now.

Here’s a finished one. These now fit more like the commercially made kufis you see for sale in halaal grocery stores and Islamic bookstores.

Weaving weekend

image

Working on the rigid heddle loom today. 5/2 Perl cotton, using up odd bits left over from other projects to make a scarf. Can you see where a warp thread broke on me?

That’s what I get for ignoring a knot! But it’s really not a big deal, I’ll just weave in a new thread with a needle when I finish up and take the fabric off the loom – might even use a bright contrast color like red just for fun. Maybe a bit of hand embroidery too while I’m at it…..but usually when I get a weaving off the loom I just want to twist the fringe and get the thing washed and out of the way!
